Birgit Djupedal (f. 1994, fra Bodø) komponerer akustisk musikk for alle slags ensembler. Musikken hennes har både tradisjonell harmonikk, mer fri tonalitet, gjerne innspill av performance og med en politisk brodd. Komposisjonsutdannelsen hennes er fra Iceland University of the Arts hvor hun fullførte masteren sin i 2018. Ellers er hun utdannet som musikkviter og kantor fra NTNU. Nå bor hun i Oslo og jobber som frilans komponist, dirigent og musiker.
Verkene hennes har bla. blitt fremført under Festspillene i Bergen, Nordic Music Days, Hardanger Musikkfest, Nordland musikkfestuke, Trondheim kammermusikkfestival, Ultima, Sumartónleikar í Skálholti (IS) og Vaka Þjóðlistahátið (IS), Óperudagar í Reykjavík (IS), blitt vist på RÚV, islandsk tv og vært en del av The European Year of Cultural Heritage. I 2022 var hun utvalgt som open call-kunstner under Festspillene i Nord-Norge med prosjektet Disorommet sammen med billedkunstneren Hanne Korsnes.

I 2020-2021 var Djupedal kunstnerisk leder og produsent sammen med Ásbjörg Jónsdóttir i festivalen Skálholt Summer Concerts. Skálholt Summer Concerts er den eldste festivalen som fremdeles er i drift på Island. Det ble startet i 1975 og er en ny musikk og tidlig musikk-festival. Festivalen de arrangerte i 2020 ble nominert til “Musical Event of the Year – Festival/String of Events” av Iceland Music Awards.
Nå bor Djupedal i Oslo og virker som komponist og musiker.
ABOUT
Birgit Djupedal (born 1994, from Bodø) composes acoustic music for all kinds of ensembles. Her music is a mixture of traditional harmony, free-tonality, often with aspects of performance and political themes. Djupedal took her master in composition at Iceland University of the Arts in 2018. She has a bachelor in musicology and year-programme in church music from NTNU, the university in Trondheim. She is currently working as a freelance composer, conductor and performer, living in Oslo. Djupedal’s music has been performed at Festspillene i Bergen, Nordic Music Days, Musikkfest Hardanger, Nordland musikkfestuke, Trondheim kammermusikkfestival, Ultima, Sumartónleikar í Skálholti (IS) og Vaka Þjóðlistahátið (IS), Óperudagar í Reykjavík (IS), shown on RÚV, Icelandic television and been a part of The European Year of Cultural Heritage. She was chosen as an open call-artist at the Festpillene i Nord-Norge in 2022. There she worked tighter with painter and textile artist Hanne Korsnes on the project Disorommet.
Djupedal was the artistic and executive director of Skálholt Summer Concerts together with Ásbjörg Jónsdóttir in 2020-2021. The Summer Concerts is the oldest still running festival in Iceland. It was founded in 1975 and it's nem music and early music thats performed at the Summer Concerts. The festival was nominated for “Musical Event of the Year – Festival/String of Events” by Iceland Music Awards for the festival in 2020.
Djupedal is currently living in Oslo working as a composer and musician.
